CASEY STONER grabbed a fifth pole start for this afternoon’s eighth round of MotoGP at Mugello, Italy.

The Repsol Honda rider from Australia put in the decisive lap of 1m, 48.034secs to head off the challenge of last weekend’s Dutch winner Ben Spies.

Now Stoner aims to extend his 28-point lead with a fifth win of the season.
