Statements of two witnesses recorded
KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court-I (ATC) Karachi on Monday recorded statements of the complainant and police official, who registered a case regarding shooting to death of unarmed youth Sarfaraz Shah by six Pakistan Rangers Sindh personnel here at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park.
Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso adjourned the hearing till July 5 today) and summoned the remaining witnesses to appear for their statements. Seven accused Sub-Inspector Bah-ur-Rehman, Lance Naik Liaquat Ali, constables Mohammad Tariq, Manthar Ali, Shahid Zafar and Mohammad Afzal and private contractor Afsar Khan are charged with the murder of 22-year-old Shah on June 8.
According to prosecution, accused personnel twice shot at an unarmed Shah and then left him to die. Initially, Rangers authorities claimed Shah was a dacoit killed in an encounter. But, video footages aired by many TV channels showed personnel beating Shah before shooting at him twice while he cried for being taken to the hospital.
On complaint of victim’s brother, Salik Shah, who is a reporter of a local TV channel, Boat Basin police registered FIR (227/2011) under section 302, 34, 36 PPC. Later, Section 7 Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 was incorporated in FIR. On Monday, complainant Salik Shah recorded his statement narrating how he came to know about the incident, went to the hospital and lodged an FIR at police station. Second witness, Sub-Inspector Riaz of Boat Basin police station, also recorded his statement.
ATC-I Judge Bashir Ahmed Khoso adjourning the hearing summoned other witnesses on July 5 (today) to record statements. ppi
